Winter can be a trying time for our immune systems and as the weather cools down, many of us are struck down by the dreaded cold or flu. A great way to ease chest and head congestion is by using a chest rub. Many store bought chest rubs contain nasty chemicals that can have a negative impact on your health. We've developed an all natural recipe that you can easily make at home, safe to use for the whole family.
Ingredients & Tools
- 1 x bottle of fractionated coconut oil
- 10-15 drops eucalyptus essential oil
- 10 drops peppermint essential oil
- 10 drops tea tree essential oil
- 10-15 drops lavender essential oil
- Glass dish
- Spoon for mixing
- Glass jar to store chest rub (a sealable lid is best to keep the chest rub fresh)
Directions
- If the coconut oil is solid, soak oil bottle in some hot water to soften. Simply by pouring a bowl of hot water and let the bottle sit in it for up to 60 seconds
- Pour contents of softened coconut oil into glass mixing dish
- Add essential oils
- Mix together in bowl until everything is combined
- Scoop into clean jar, with air tight lid (make sure jar has been sterilised beforehand by soaking in hot water and tea tree essential oil)
- Allow mixture to re-solidify in room temperature or for easier use, just put in fridge until hard
- Store at room temperature - will last for a year. Please note: remember that coconut oil will melt in the summer so store in the fridge.
How to use
Rub on chest, back, neck and bottoms of feet.
Cautions: Do not apply on broken or sensitive skin, eyes, around mouth or anywhere directly on your face. Always do a patch test first.
