FAQ

What assurance is there for the quality of ECO. products?

We often are asked how we can make such high quality products so affordable. We believe in investing in our ingredients & not fancy packaging or expensive advertising. Many of our customers return because they love the quality, results & value of ECO. products & many find us through recommendation! We are TGA, GMP, ACO. Certified Organic approved for quality assurance.

What quality assurance can you provide for your oils?

We conduct internal testing and third party testing on our oil quality. To obtain copies of our GCMS or QA reports please email us at enquiries@ecomodernessentials.com with your name & order number and we can provide appropriate documents for the oils you have purchased for your peace of mind.

Are your products tested on animals?

We are a cruelty free company. We do not test our ingredients, product prototypes or finished products on animals. We work closely with our ingredient suppliers to ensure they are aware of our company values, policies & are certified for ethical sourcing code compliance. Our PETA Cruelty-free & Vegan logo recognises that we are committed to a strict ban on animal tests from the time we became “PETA Approved” and into the future.

Can ECO. essential oils be ingested or used for cooking?

Essential oils are a mixture of natural chemical compounds specific to the plant family that the oil is derived from. Basic chemistry teaches us that the nutrients of the plant do not survive the process of extracting and distilling of essential oils. They are not nutrients as per say as they contain very little to no water-soluble or fat-soluble vitamins, minerals, proteins, enzymes or hormones.

Although some essential oils can be consumed safely; without adequate training and experience, they can be toxic and/or damaging internally. Although our essential oils are 100% pure & natural, please seek advice from your qualified Aromatherapist or medical practitioner before ingesting to be sure of no harm to yourself or others.

Do ECO. products contain parabens?

No, our products do not contain parabens.

How should I store my essential oils?

Essential oils can be effected by light. Direct sunlight can heat the essential oil and deteriorate their quality. All of our essential oils a bottled in amber glass and we encourage you to store them in a dry, cool, dark place. Essential oil storage boxes are a great way to keep your essential oils safe.

Are essential oils safe for pets?

Essential oils can be toxic for pets. Never leave bottles open or in reach of animals. Each pet will differ, so please use caution when diffusing oils around pets. Watch out for changes in their behaviour, such as leaving the room while oils are burning or changes in eating habits. If you notice changes then we recommend to stop using that particular oil.

These oils are known to contain phenols and be toxic to cats/dogs: Peppermint oil, Citrus oils (including Lemon oil), Tea Tree oil, Pine oil, Eucalyptus oil, Cinnamon oil, Ylang Ylang oil.

The higher the concentration of essential oil, the greater the risk to your pet. If your pet ingests any oils accidentally, go to the veterinarian immediately.

Are your products vegan?

Our entire product line is free of animal-derived ingredients. We are 100% vegan & cruelty free certified by PETA.

Which ECO. products are safe for pregnancy?

Aromatherapy and the use of essential oils can be a great support for an expecting mother, with benefits including pain relief, calming, sleeping, energy and mental grounding. However there are also some warnings that you should consider before using essential oils in your pregnancy journey.

The Golden Rules of Aromatherapy During Pregnancy

If you have had difficulties falling pregnant or if you have had a history of complicated pregnancies or miscarriages avoid using essential oils during the first trimester unless you are under the supervision of a qualified practitioner. Dilute essential oils to 1% in a massage blend. Low dilutions are recommended because the expectant mother may experience a heightened sense of smell and find a stronger blend too overwhelming. Secondly, there is good evidence to suggest that essential oil molecules can cross the placenta and some essential oils in large concentrations may not be healthy for the baby. Use your increased sense of smell to advantage and inhale each essential oil before use. You will know immediately if the oil is suitable for you as it will smell obviously wonderful or unpleasant. Note: essential oil preferences may change throughout your pregnancy.

Why is there conflicting information about the essential oils I can use during pregnancy?

Even amongst very prominent and respected Aromatherapists there are different opinions about the safety of using certain essential oils during pregnancy. Some essential oils are thought to have the effect of promoting menstruation or regulating hormones and although there is no evidence to suggest that these oils would affect a pregnancy we cannot be sure, so for now avoiding these essential oils is prudent. For safe self-care choose essential oils from the list above. Please always seek medical advice for use of essential oils during pregnancy.

ECO. Face & Body Products

Most ECO. products are safe for pregnancy; one exception is the Vitamin A serum as it contains Retinol, which is not recommended for pregnancy.

Are there any precautions with essential oils when I'm breastfeeding?

Yes.  It is not recommended to use essential oils for babies until they are around 2 years old.  Take care not to apply an essential oil to the breasts or nipples incase they are ingested by the baby.  Essential oil components have been found in breast milk so it may be advisable to avoid topical application of essential oils whilst breastfeeding.  Diffusing essential oils is considered safe during the early stages of motherhood.

Are essential oils safe for children?

BABIES (0 to 24 months)

Essential oils are considered too strong for use on a baby’s skin and a little overwhelming on their developing systems.  We can still use aromatherapy in the form of tea or in a diffuser.

Bath Time

To soothe irritated skin and cranky moods, add Chamomile or Lavender tea to their bath. Brew a strong pot using the dried herb and strain before adding to your baby’s bath water.

Tummy Troubles

If your baby is breastfeeding you can try drinking Fennel, Peppermint or Chamomile tea which will dilute into your breast milk and help ease your baby's windy, sore tummy.

Dry Skin

A massage using a good quality olive oil is a useful remedy for flaky skin and cradle cap.

Sweet Dreams

A diffuser in the bedroom to gently fill the air with aroma creates a restful and calming space. Add 5 drops to the diffuser and diffuse for up to 30 minutes around bedtime. Neroli, Chamomile, Lavender or Mandarin are soothing and relaxing choices.

CHILDREN (2 to 8 years)

Children love aromatherapy and will make it abundantly clear which oils they like the best.  Use a low dilution of 1% when applying to your child’s skin. Stick to the gentler essential oils such as Lavender, Rose, Mandarin, Sandalwood, Chamomile, Spearmint, Lemon, Orange, Lemon Myrtle and Neroli. You can also learn more about our ECO. Little range which is formulated with kid-friendly essential oils.

Bubble Bath

Who doesn’t love a bubble bath? You can make your own by blending 20 drops of essential oil to 100mls of liquid castile soap.  Castile soap is made using olive oil and has skin nourishing properties. Neroli, Rose, Sandalwood, Chamomile, Lavender or Mandarin essential oils are gentle on the skin and help with relaxation and ease upsets.

Massage

Many children enjoy a massage before bed. A beautiful space for parents and children to bond, massage can help calm the mind and body and if done regularly can become a signal for your child to sleep.  Use a 1% dilution; 2 drops of essential oil to 10mls of carrier oil. Pick a blend from Neroli, Rose, Chamomile, Lavender or Mandarin. Older children enjoy choosing their favourite oils for you to use.

 Diffuser

An energising blend starts the day with joy and zest for the whole family. Energising morning oils include Lemon, Orange, Lemon Myrtle, May Chang and Spearmint. Blending Tip: Add a few drops of a grounding oil to take the sharp aroma out of a citrus blend. Try Geranium, Ylang Ylang, Cedarwood or Lavender. To disinfect the air when family members have a cold diffuse Lime or Lemon Myrtle to prevent the bug from spreading.

Are your products certified organic?

We have a Certified Organic Collection which you can learn more about here. While we source all of our oils organically, the majority of the farms/countries we source from don’t actually have internationally recognised organic standards. What we do know is that we only source from farms that do not use GMOs or pesticides on their crops. Part of working with natural ingredients means that we must be flexible to change sources should there be a natural disaster or extreme weather in our main country of sourcing. Instead of depleting local supplies we can easily source high quality ingredients from other farms. It makes us more responsive to environmental changes while still knowing the farms we are working with.

Are ECO. oils therapeutic grade?

The term therapeutic grade isn’t actually a recognised Essential Oil standard - there’s no regulating organisation that monitors it. So yes, we could say that we are therapeutic grade but that could be a little misleading as there’s no real definition for it! We prefer to confirm that our oils are 100% pure essential oils, that are true to botanical species and contain no synthetics or nature identicals.

What quality are the ECO. essential oils?

Our essential oils are 100% pure. We source our raw material based on delivering the highest possible quality into each and every product. This includes sourcing our essential oils and carrier oils from countries where the plant material grows best both climatically and seasonally, as well as choosing those that contain the best active constituents to perform accordingly to the high standards we set.

What are the production standards of your products?

Our products are produced in manufacturing facilities that have achieved the highest standards available for cosmetics in Australia, they are TGA compliant, GMP compliant, Australian Certified Organic and audited frequently to maintain this high standard.

Can I recycle bottles from other companies/brands with the ECO. recycling program?

Yes we are happy to help you recycle bottles from other brands, include these along with your ECO. bottles in your return. Please note only ECO. bottles will count towards the 3 units needed to receive your $15 credit.

I have very sensitive skin, can I use ECO. products?

Our natural skin care range is based on pure essential oils, plant extracts & vitamins. These ingredients are active & promote response in the skin (which is what we want to improve our skin health & appearance!) If you have sensitive or sensitised skin, we recommend you slowly introduce new products into your regime, one product at a time. This will give your skin time to adjust. Timing may vary for this; you know your skin better than anyone! You can test patch on your inner elbow or behind your ear before using products. Apply a small amount & leave as long as it normally takes for your skin to respond, or for 24 hours. If you experience any uncomfortable sensations, such as stinging or burning, wash off immediately & contact your place of purchase.

Are all the ingredients of the essential oils sourced from Australia?

All of our products are bottled in Australia, however not all ingredients are sourced from Australia. Due to climatic, geographic & season availability reasons, all ingredients may not be obtained in Australia. Our essential oils are sourced from countries where the plant material grows best climatically & seasonally and that contain the best active constituents to perform accordingly to the high standards we set. The ingredients are sourced from countries aligned with our manufacturing ethical sourcing code compliance & Quality Assurance standards. You can view all of our ingredients sourcing in our ingredients glossary.

I live in a cold climate & my Peppermint essential oil has crystalised, why?

Peppermint essential oil is a pure oil that contains menthol, which naturally holds inherent therapeutic properties. It will crystallise in cooler temperatures, which is a natural process. To liquefy, run the outside of the bottle under warm water and swirl the contents, which should bring it back to its normal state.

What does TGA listed mean?

The Therapeutic Goods Administration is the regulatory body for therapeutic goods in Australia. It is a Division of the Australian Department of Health established under the Therapeutic Goods Act 1989. TGA listed are all unscheduled medicines with well-known low-risk ingredients, usually with a long history of use, such as vitamin and mineral products or sunscreens. These are assessed by the TGA for quality and safety but not efficacy.

ECO. Anxiety Blend essential oil is TGA listed. This allows us to make the following claims;

Therapeutic benefits:

•Relieve symptoms of mild anxiety

•Help maintain emotional wellbeing

•Promote body relaxation

•Enhance body adaptation to stressIncrease vitality

•Improve sleep quality

Is it normal for my diffuser to spark or glow when I plug it in?

If the cord is already plugged into the wall then hot electricity will be travelling from the outlet to the diffuser, this will cause a rapid draw of power when plugged in which results in a slight glowing around the cord when entering the diffuser outlet. This is normal and comparable to static electricity. If you are experiencing this then we recommend to plug the diffuser outlet in first before plugging the power point into the wall which will resolve the issue.

How long will a bottle of essential oil last in my Nebulizing Diffuser?

This can vary depending on which essential oil you are using in your Nebulizing Diffuser, it will also vary depending on how often you use your Nebulizing Diffuser. For a guide, we have used the Nebulizing Diffuser on the intermittent setting for 2 hours, once a day and have found an essential oil will last approximately 2-3 months. This is a guide only and may vary due to the above mentioned.
