Lemongrass essential oil has good anti-septic properties and could be used in cleaning blends.

Skin & Body


Some research indicates that Lemongrass has strong anti-bacterial and anti-fungal actions. For the musculoskeletal system, Lemongrass essential oil can be added to post workout massage blends to help manage acute injury and bruising. A tonic to blood vessels, Lemongrass is recommended for varicose veins, fluid retention and oedema. Traditionally Lemongrass has been used to treat intestinal infection and its warming action is helpful for poor digestion.

 

Considered a general skin tonic, Lemongrass reduces the appearance of large pores and is suitable for oily skin. Lemongrass can also be included in deodorant blends or used neat to deodorise shoes, this oil could be used in an insect repellent blend.  

Wellbeing


Perfect in times of fatigue. Stimulating and helps revive and energise. Useful in helping jet-lag and clearing the head.

How to use

Massage: Use a 2.5% dilution; 15 drops per 30ml carrier oil.

 

Bath: Add up to 5 drops in a dispersant, such as carrier oil or honey, to the bath.

 

Hand or foot bath: Add 2 drops of essential oil to a bowl of water to treat nail infections

 

Steam treatment (face): Add 2 drops of essential oil to a bowl of steaming hot water. Caution due to risk of burns or scalding.

 

Compress: to a bowl of water, add 2 drops of essential oil. Agitate a face washer in the water, wring out excess moisture and apply washer to the affected area. Repeat two or three times as the compress cools down or warms up. Cool compresses are recommended for application to sore muscles and joints after exercise.

 

Lemongrass is considered a generally safe essential oil, although may cause skin irritation for some. A patch test is recommended for those with sensitive skin.
